This classic black clay fruit bowl is a handmade wonder from Vila Nova de Poiares in central Portugal.
The clay comes from a nearby place called Olho Marinho.
The firing process differs from the usual terracota coloured ceramic as the brick oven is sealed and the trapped smoke turns the clay black.
In olden days, the brick oven was covered by earth.
