Miranda do Corvo, 25 km from Coimbra, goes back to pre-history and in the Middle Ages, guarded the access along the old Roman roadway that crossed Corvo and connected Tomar to Coimbra. Its vantage point gave it the name "Miranda", from the Latin Mirandus meaning "watchtower" - a place where you can view the territories around.

There are 17 places of worship in Miranda ranging from Chapels, Churches, Sanctuaries and a Monastery.

Lace was already used in the 12th century by the Benedictine nuns of the Monastery. They are still made with a wire needle and the cotton threads are gathered at the shoulder by a small shell.

This tradition has passed as well as the patterns from one generation to another as an inheritance.
